The Pokémon franchise has proved itself to be popular down under with record-breaking sales in Australia and New Zealand.

According to reports, the Australian branch of Nintendo's "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" are the most successful video games based on its opening weekend launch.

As Latinos Post reported, the sixth-generation video games launch worldwide for the first time on Oct. 12 in Australia, Europe, Japan and North America.

For Australia, its opening weekend saw 100,000 units of the sixth-generation games sold, which immediate broke the 80,000 record for "Pokémon Black Version" and "Pokémon White Version."

The latest Pokémon games have been sold out in various retail locations but Nintendo Australia reassured they will replenish its stock within a week.

"The demand for these highly anticipated titles has meant that some retailers in Australia and New Zealand have been faced with an out-of-stock situation," Nintendo Australia in a press statement. "Nintendo Australia is ensuring that additional stock will be available from this week to ensure consumers are able to begin their adventure as soon as possible."

As a reminder, the video games feature a Torchic distribution event. Torchic is available for free with the item "Blazikenite," which will transform Torchic's last evolution, Blaziken, into "Mega Blaziken." The Fire-type Hoenn-region starter will be available for gamers worldwide until Jan. 15, 2014.
