When it comes to smartphone operating systems in Latin America, no mobile platform comes close to toppling Google Android.

According to the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel, when smartphone operating system market shares were combined from Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico for the three months ending in September this year, Android easily maintained the No.1 position while increasing its lead by double digits.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, Android saw an increase of 23.1 percentage points between the three months ending in September 2013 and the same period in 2012. The double digit increase gave Android 73.4 percent of the smartphone operating system market share by the time September 2013 concluded, up from 50.3 percent last year.

BlackBerry, Apple's iOS, and Microsoft's Windows Phone were neck-and-neck for second place in Latin America. Ultimately, the second place winner went to iOS.

Apple's smartphone operating system previously held the fourth place position during the three months ending in September last year. For the same period this year, iOS increased its rank to second place while only increasing its market share percentage by 2.2 points.

Apple concluded the three-month period ending in September 2013 with 6.6 percent of the market share, which is up from 4.4 percent last year.

Windows Phones slipped from last year's figures but maintained an increase in its market share percentage. The Microsoft smartphone platform previously held third place with 4.5 percent of the market share during the three months ending in September 2012. By the time September 2013 concluded, Windows Phone maintained its position in third.

Windows Phone saw an increase in their market share figures by 1.3 percentage points. Windows Phone ended September this year with 5.8 percent of the smartphone operating system market share.

The decline of BlackBerry was evident in Latin America. BlackBerry previously held second place with 14.3 percent of the market share but has since fallen by 9.2 percentage points. Once September 2013 concluded, BlackBerry achieved 5.1 percent of the market share, which was enough for fourth place.
