Every time a new Android version is released, it always elicits the same questions: will and when will my device receive the upgrade? OEMS and carriers are usually pretty iffy when it comes to providing such information, but luckily for Sony smartphone users, the Japanese electronics manufacturer has released a list of phones confirmed for Android 4.4 KitKat.
Sony Mobile recently confirmed on its blog five devices for Android 4.4 KitKat, all of them being part of the Xperia Z lineup.
"We're also happy to tell you about the first raft of Xperia products that we'll make Android 4.4 Kit Kat available for - they are: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1," Sony Mobile writes in its blog.
No exact release dates were given for any of the devices, although it's important to note that many of them still need to get bumped up to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which Sony states will roll out to some of them in December. Given the process of Android development, and the fact that some variants need the update to get carrier approval, this could translate to a 2014 release for Android 4.4 KitKat.
So what exactly will Android 4.4 KitKat bring? For starters, Google has revamped the overall look and feel. The interface features less clutter, more space, and more colors. Think of it as a response to Apple's recently-released iOS 7. And while there are a ton of features to get into, one thing should be made clear: Google Now is more prevalent than ever. Google has integrated the intelligent personal assistant into more phone functions than ever (including the dialer!) as the Mountain View search giant hopes to have Google Now display relevant information before it's even asked.
