Actress, producer and director Eva Longoria discussed her new action short "Out of the Blue," directing and future projects during an interview with Latina.com.

Longoria confessed she decided to participate in Canon's "Project Imaginat10n," where five celebrities take the director's role to film shorts inspired by user-submitted photographs, when she heard Ron Howard was in it.

"At first they had approached me about it and told me about the opportunity and as soon as I heard Ron Howard's name, I was in. I love him!" said the 38-year-old star. "The project itself was such an interesting, creative challenge: to write and shoot a short film inspired by photographs. In some ways it was limiting, and in other ways it was unlimiting, freeing. Using these still images as sources of inspiration, these things that came from all over the country, that was really just exciting and a great challenge."

The former "Desperate Housewives" actress said she will definitely consider directing again. "This was the second time I directed, and I'm directing the season premiere of 'Devious Maids.' I love directing short films and TV. You have a short amount of time and it's a fast and furious schedule. It's really fun for me."

"This particular project was so challenging because I'm not only writing and directing this project, but I'm also acting in it! That's not my favorite part, directing things that I am in, but it was certainly a worthwhile challenge."

For the short film "Out of the Blue," Longoria cast Puerto Rican actor and long time friend Amaury Nolasco as her co-star. The actress said Nolasco is "family" since they've "known each other for 20 years".

Longoria said that directing has inspired her to keep on exploring this new side of her career. "I really want to do more directing. It was such a pleasure to partner with Ron Howard and I'm excited [Canon] gave me the opportunity to do that."

"I hope this project inspires people, especially our Latino community, to get behind the camera, to tell more stories, to bring our vision to life. We need more voices contributing to the mix," she added.
