Singer and actress Selena Gomez will be the halftime performer on the Dallas Cowboys' annual Thanksgiving game, Latina informed. The 21-year-old star will sing at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington to kick off the Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign.

"Dallas is my hometown, and to be invited to perform on behalf of the Salvation Army is such a great honor," Gomez said in a statement published on the Cowboys' blog. "Giving back is so important, and I am looking forward to kicking off the iconic Red Kettle Campaign and getting those bells ringing across the nation to help families and children in need."

"You should expect something new with a twist of old," she added. "We had to make it special for my hometown."

The singer, who is currently wrapping up her "Stars Dance World Tour," shared the news with her fans on Twitter. "I'm kickin off @SalvationArmyUS 's 123rd #RedKettleCampaign this Thanksgiving w/a halftime performance during the @DallasCowboys game!" wrote the artist, who earlier this year won an MTV Video Music Awards for "Best Pop Video" for her single "Come and Get It."

Gomez, who is a Texas native, also confessed she is a huge Cowboys fan. "I don't think you can be from Texas, and not watch a Cowboys Thanksgiving game," she wrote, adding Kelly Clarkson was he favorite past performer.

"We are thrilled to have Selena kick off the Red Kettle Campaign and be a part of this time-honored tradition," said Cowboys executive vice president, chief brand officer and driving force behind the Cowboys-Salvation Army partnership, Charlotte Jones Anderson. "Her amazing performance, a national stage and huge, enthusiastic fan base will be a powerful start to Red Kettle 2013."

"The Salvation Army touches so many lives and provides nourishment, shelter and support for children and families in the most need," added Anderson. "Together with Selena, we celebrate the important impact of The Salvation Army's work in doing the most good."
