After a series of rumors suggesting that "Star Wars: Episode VII" would be delayed, director J.J Abrams has stated that he wants the new movie to have the same mystery that the original trilogy had when it was released.
During an interview with The Times magazine, the director said that he loved the unfamiliar world of the original trilogy. He said, "I loved how 'Star Wars' had that sense of a world far beyond the borders of what you can see and have been told - it's one of the things it did so brilliantly."
He continued, "If you watch the first movie, you don't actually know exactly what the Empire is trying to do. They're going to rule by fear - but you don't know what their end game is. The beauty of that movie was that it was an unfamiliar world, and yet you wanted to see it expand and to see where it went."
When asked about the new trilogy the director was careful not to criticize the films which were panned by critics and fans. "A lot of kids who saw all the prequels when they were young really do identify with those movies as much as my generation identified with the originals," said Abrams.
Abrams is best known for his work on "Star Trek," and "Star Trek Into Darkness." He has also directed "Mission Impossible 3" and "Super 8."
"Star Wars: Episode VII" is currently in pre-production with filming rumored to begin early next year. Disney plans to release the movie in 2015 but has yet to announce the exact release date. Kathleen Kennedy will produce the film from a script originally written by Michael Arndt. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are currently doing rewrites.
