The trailer to Jason Reitman's "Labor Day" has been revealed.
The film, starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin and Tobey Maguire, tells the story of a 13-year-old boy and his mother who encounter an escaped convict over Labor Day weekend.
The film was once seen as an Oscar contender, but after having premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to mixed reviews, it was quickly forgotten.
Peter Deburge of Variety wrote, "To the extent that Adele's hunger for affection resonates with audiences, what emerges is a powerful -- if implausible -- romance."
Todd McCarthy from the Hollywood Reporter also liked the film, calling it "A nuanced, superbly acted love story with a most unusual genesis."
William Gross of Film.com also gave it a positive review and stated, "As consistently assured a piece of filmmaking as any we've seen from Reitman."
Meanwhile, Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment disliked it and stated, "I'm all for sincerity in filmmaking, but the quality that has defined Reitman's best movies - 'Up in the Air,' 'Juno,' and 'Thank You For Smoking' - is audacity, and he really needs to get that back."
Chris Willman of the Playlist gave the film a C and wrote, "A full-immersion exercise in the old-fashioned women's weepie that skews far closer to Nicholas Sparks' brand of contrivance than Diablo Cody territory."
Paramount will release the film on Dec. 25 in limited release and will later expand it. "Labor Day" is rated PG-13.
