Is Victor Valdes headed to Monaco?

Barcelona's netminder has reportedly contacted the club and could be making his way to France for the 2013-14 season.

According to ESPN, former Barcelona teammate Ludovic Giuly stated that Valdes contacted him about joining the French squad.

"He's been at Barca since he was young. He wants to discover something more calm, with less pressure. He needs to find out about something new, and I know Monaco have contacted him discreetly many times already," said Giuly. "He's also talked to me about it. We've discussed it, and he's happy they have been in touch. I don't know which decision he'll take, but there has been contact. We'd be happy to see him at Monaco."

Valdes is having a tremendous year for Barcelona and briefly took over the starting position on Spain's national team from goalie Iker Casillas. Despite his tremendous success with the Spanish club, the netminder has repeatedly stated that he is ready to play for another club and try out a new experience in another country.

"I have a contract until the end of the season with Barcelona," Valdes previously stated. "I spent over 20 years with the club. I have had the opportunity to win everything, so the adventure will come to an end when the season finishes. But I always want to win everything, and to set myself new goals."

Monaco is currently contending to win the French Ligue 1 Championship after purchasing such stars as Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez over the summer.
