Evelyn Lozada, star of VH1's "Basketball Wives", has filed for divorce from her husband Chad Johnson in the wake of domestic abuse allegations.

On Saturday, an argument between the couple resulted in Lozada being treated at a hospital for lacerations to her head. Lozada alleges that Johnson head-butted her during the argument.

In a public announcement, Lozada states "I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well."

Johnson, who was kicked out of the Miami Dolphins after his arrest, responded to the allegations, saying "I am going to let the legal process run its course. I wish Evelyn nothing but the best, I have no negative words about her, the only thing I can say is I love her very much."

In concern to his football career, Johnson added, "I will continue to be positive and stay training hard for another opportunity in the NFL. I appreciate all my fans and supporters and fi I have disappointed you in any way, you have my sincerest apologies...I will appreciate all the support during this tough period of my life.

Dolphins coach, Joe Philbin commented that he doesn't "see the mesh right now" with Johnson and the Dolphins. Philbin stated it would be best for both the team and the now ex-NFL player to "part ways at this point in time."

VH1's spinoff show to "Basketball Wives", entitled "Ev & Ocho" was cancelled as a result of the abuse allegations.
