According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the smartphone market grow nearly 40 percentage points worldwide during the latest third quarter, and Samsung easily held the leadership position.
The IDC's latest data showed Samsung easily commanding the top spot as the world's top smartphone manufacturer with 31.4 percent of the market share during the 2013 third quarter.

The IDC noted Samsung shipped 81.2 million smartphone units during the latest quarter this year, which is up from the 57.8 million units shipped during the same quarter in 2012.
Apple encountered mixed results during the third quarter in 2013 as the Cupertino-based organization shipped more smartphones than in 2012 but lost ground in the market share. The IDC noted Apple shipped 33.8 million smartphone in the latest quarter this year, which is more than the 26.9 million units shipped during the same quarter last year. Apple had 14.4 percent market share in the third quarter of 2012, but dropped to 13.1 percent by the end of the third quarter this year.
It was a close battle for third place among Huawei, Lenovo, and LG.
Huawei managed to secure third place with 12.5 million smartphone units shipped, or 4.8 percent of the market share. The market share for Huawei is an increase of one percentage point in comparison to the same period in 2012.
Lenovo also saw an increase in smartphones shipped and its market share. Lenovo shipped 12.3 million smartphones during the third quarter of 2013, representing 4.7 percent of the market share.
LG shipped 12 million units in the third quarter, or 4.6 percent. In comparison to 2012, seven million smartphone units were shipped during the third quarter, representing 3.8 percentage points in the market share.
According to the IDC, 258.4 million smartphone units were shipped during the third quarter of 2013.
