Apple and Nokia have one thing in common, new tablets.

On Oct. 22, Nokia announced their first tablet with the Lumia 2520. Later that same day, Apple introduced their fifth-generation tablet known as the iPad Air.

The large-screen tablets have their similarities and distinctions, but minor detail can make the difference to the public.

When it comes to the display, Lumia 2520 has a screen size of 10.1 inches with 1,920x1,080 resolution and at 218 pixels per inch (ppi). Meanwhile, the iPad Air has a 9.7-inch display with 2,048x1,536 resolution at 264ppi.

The memory options for the tablet differ, and slightly in Apple's favor. The Lumia 2520 is available in a 32GB internal storage model with 2GB of RAM. A microSD card slot is available on the Lumia 2520 for an additional 32GB of memory. The iPad Air is available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB models, but doesn't offer a microSD card slot.

The wireless connectivity options on the iPad Air and Lumia 2520 are similar. The two tablets are able to connect to Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth version 4.0, Wi-Fi hotspot, and USB connectivity. An advantage for the Lumia 2520 is it comes equipped with NFC.

The camera specifications appear to be better on the Lumia 2520 than on the Apple tablet. The Nokia-based tablet is equipped with a rear-facing photography camera with 6.7 megapixels at 3,088x1,744 pixels and a front-facing camera with 2 megapixels. The iPad Air's rear-facing camera has 5 megapixels at 2,592x1,944 pixels, and the front-facing camera has 1.2 megapixels.

The video-recording capabilities are about the same. The Lumia 2520 and iPad Air's rear-facing cameras can both record at 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps). The iPad Air and Lumia 2520's front-facing camera can record at 720p and both maintaining the 30fps.

The Lumia 2520 utilizes the Microsoft Windows RT platform, while the iPad Air runs on the new iOS 7, which launched on Sept. 18 worldwide.

The Lumia 2520 has the Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor. The iPad Air uses the A7 dual-core 1.3GHz Cyclone processor.

When it comes to release dates, the iPad Air is set to be available first. The iPad Air has been confirmed to launch on Nov. 1 across Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States.

For prices, the 16GB iPad Air for $499, the 32GB model is priced at $599, $699 for the 64GB model, and $799 for the 128GB variant. With cellular data, the 16GB model cost $629, 32GB model is priced at $729, $829 for the 64GB, and $929 for the 128GB variant.
