It's hard to take anything too seriously about the upcoming Google Nexus 5 smartphone due to the incredible amount of speculation taking place, but seeing as the handset is nowhere in sight yet, let's take a stab at another possible release date. The latest whispers from the technosphere indicate that Oct. 31 will be the date that the Nexus 5 goes on sale in the United States.

The date comes to us via Mobile Syrup, which states that an anonymous source has tipped them off that the Nexus 5 will be available for purchase through the Google Play store on Halloween, Oct. 31. Canadians will apparently have to wait a little longer — the Nexus 5 will start selling through carriers Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Koodo, and Virgin around a week later, around Nov.7 or Nov. 8.

The dates are encouraging, and do fall in line with predictions that Google will want to have the handset well into the market by the time the busy fall holiday shopping season hits the United States, but bear in mind everything is unconfirmed at this point. Until Google or LG makes a statement, everybody will simply have to wait.

The Google Nexus 5 is rumored to go on sale starting at $399 for the 16GB model and $449 for the 32GB variant. The phone should be equipped with a 5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, and an Adreno 330 GPU capable of Open GL 3.0.
