Ben Affleck has revealed that he was reluctant to play the Caped Crusader in the upcoming "Batman vs. Superman."

During an interview with 411mania, Afleck said that he did not fit the traditional mold for the superhero. "Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didn't fit the traditional mold but once Zack showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris and Christian made but still in keeping with tradition I was excited. Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it's the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zack's vision," Afleck told 411mania.

The actor also confirmed that his Batman would be a tired and rugged character. However, Affleck failed to say anything about the movie's plot. "Yes. I don't want to go further because I want to be able to capitalize on what is new about this iteration by having it be a surprise to the audience."

When asked who his favorite Batman was, Affleck also refused to give an answer. "It has been done very well many times before," he said.

"Batman vs. Superman" recently began shooting second unit takes. The films primary production will begin in January 2014 with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne set to star. Zack Snyder will direct the film from a script by David Goyer.

Warner Bros. will release the film on July 17, 2015.
