The Sims is one of the most famous and popular video game franchises of all time, and EA has revealed that the latest edition of the series, The Sims 4, will be released on the PC and Mac in fall 2014, according to a report from Gamespot.

The Sims 4 will not be an always-online title like the most recent version of SimCity, due to EA's servers failing to handle the amount of players accessing SimCity, which led to one of the worst launches in video game history. EA will not push their luck with The Sims 4, and will allow the game to have an offline mode to avoid taxing the game's servers. However, the game will require an EA Origin account to finish activating the game, so users will have to go online at some point.

EA also announced some new details about the game to help highlight the changes that are coming to the series. One of the brand new features for the game is SmartSim. This option will help users when it comes time to build a house. SmartSim is designed to streamline the process, and allow users to modify their existing homes with more ease than previous entries into the series. Users drag and pull the walls of the room into shape, and players can drag and drop the whole of room to a new location if they so desire.

EA has also revealed that the Create-A-Sim mode for The Sims 4 will have additional features and options so players will be able to customize their avatar with a plethora of new details. Players will be able to highlight certain aspects of their Sim in this mode and modify that body part with a click of the mouse. This means that instead of slider bars the game will have users push and pull their Sims to make them look the way a user wants.

The game will feature updated graphics, and Sims will be much more expressive than in previous games. A Sim will gesture and show emotion during conversation, showing the players exactly how they are responding to the events around them.
