Leonardo DiCaprio's 'The Wolf of Wall Street' Release Date Set For Christmas Day?

"The Wolf of Wall Street" will hit theaters on Christmas Day.

After weeks of speculation that the film would be delayed until 2014, the Los Angeles Times reports that Paramount will merely delay the film until December. As a result, it is likely that Kenneth Branagh film "Jack Ryan," which stars Chris Pine and Keira Knightley, will be delayed until 2014.

Paramount failed to confirm the news, but according to the LA Times the studio will announce the news in the coming weeks.

The film's original release date was Nov. 15 and the movie was once seen as a major awards player. With a Christmas release though, "The Wolf of Wall Street" will be one of the late players in Oscar season, which could potentially affect its awards chances. Analysts have already speculated that the film may not even be ready for the first round of critics awards. According to unidentified sources, the original cut to the film was three hours long and Paramount asked director Martin Scorsese to cut the film. As a result the director and his editor Thelma Schoonmaker went back into the editing room.

"The Wolf of Wall Street" stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill and tells the story of Jordan Belfort who rises to become a wealthy stockbroker. However, he eventually falls because of his involvement in crime and corruption.

Paramount will next release "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa." The company will also release Jason Reitman's "Labor Day" starring Kate Winslet, and Alexander Payne's "Nebraska." The studio also has "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" on this year's slate.
