Alligator Shows Up at Walmart Store in Central Florida, Blocks Front Door Entrance [Video]

A six-foot-long alligator made a spectacle at a Florida WalMart on Sunday night.

According to NBC News Miami, the alligator approached the front door of the Apopka WalMart in central Florida around midnight on Sunday. It sidled up to the front door of the store, scaring customers and causing the door's sensors to open and close the doors until WalMart employees were finally able to turn the sensors off and lock up the front door.

Local police were called to the scene to ensure customer safety as people gathered around the gator to look at it and take pictures. Wildlife officials were able to lure the animal away, causing it to take off for the nearby woods, according to ClickOrlando.com.

Officers searched the swamps surrounding the WalMart for the alligator, but it has not been seen since it made its initial debut. No customers or onlookers were injured during the incident.

This isn't the first time an alligator has tried to enter a grocery store, either.

Huffington Post reports that in October of 2012, a three-foot-long alligator was found in the parking lot of a Pathmark grocery store on New York's Long Island. The following day another alligator, four-feet in length, was found in the same parking lot of the same store.

Both alligators involved in that incident were caught and turned over to the Nassau County Emergency Services Unit. It was reported that they would be sent to live permanently in a reptile sanctuary in Florida.
