Despite the launch of Apple's two new iPhones, the discontinued iPhone 5, however, is still making an impact on the Web.

According to new data gathered by Chitika Insights, the iPhone 5's Web traffic across North America increased by four percentage points during the week after Apple launched the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.

Chitika Insights noted the iPhone 5's web presence will continue to grow and reach 50 percent of total iPhone Web traffic "sooner than later."

"Assuming that 50 [percent] mark is surpassed within the next several months, Apple will have a plurality, and possibly a majority, of its iPhone customer base using a device less than one and a half years old," wrote Chitika Insights in their report titled, "Three-Week Analysis: iPhone 5 Models Account for 40.6% of North American iPhone Web Traffic." "Should this occur, it would be a remarkable achievement, especially for an industry player as large as Apple."

As Latinos Post reported, Apple discontinued the iPhone following the confirmation of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s on Sept. 10. The iPhone 5s could be the direct replacement for the iPhone 5. The links directing for the iPhone 5 have become nonexistent while inserting "https://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5" transfers to the iPhone 5s and its offerings.

The tide could change in the next few months as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c continue to launch across new territories, from new countries and mobile carriers.

The new Apple smartphones are set to launch with prepaid wireless service Cricket in the U.S. on Oct. 25 and in more than 30 countries including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, French West Indies, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion Island, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Thailand.

As Latinos Post reported, Apple confirmed nine million units of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were sold during its first weekend on Sept. 20. The Cupertino-based organization didn't reveal specific numbers for the iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c. The nine million units for both phones were four million units more than the first-weekend sales of the iPhone 5 in September 2012, which sold 5 million units.

The Chitika Insights data was collected between Sept. 13 and Oct. 3 with "tens of millions" of North American ad impressions by iPhone users. Chitika Insights stated their study typically involves roughly 300 million Canadian and U.S. impressions by page views rather than unique visitors.
