Microsoft has issued a software update for the Surface tablets.

Microsoft originally issued a statement on Oct. 4 stating the organization was preparing for the launch of Windows 8.1, however, additional updates were provided days later.

For the Surface with Windows 8 Pro, Microsoft initially issued an UEFI firmware and system aggregator firmware updates.

The Oct. 4 update included driver improvements once Windows 8.1 rolled out.

Once the second October updates were announced, Microsoft announced no additional product updates were available for the Surface with Windows 8 Pro utilizing the Windows 8.0. It is unsure if the "no additional products updates" were exclusive to the October update.

As a preview of Windows 8.1 rolled out, all existing Windows 8.0 drivers and firmware were migrated to Windows 8.1 including improved Wi-Fi and optimization for the Type Cover 2 and Surface Type Cover 2.

For the Surface with Windows RT tablet, the device also had no updates, initially on Oct. 4, as Microsoft was prepping the Windows RT 8.1 operating system.

Once the second October update rolled out, the Surface with Windows RT updates included UEFI firmware and system aggregator firmware updates. Similar to the Surface with Windows 8 Pro, improvements to the device driver were included to "enhance" the Windows 8.1 update experience as well as optimizations when using the Type Cover 2 or Surface Touch Cover 2.

The October updates come after Microsoft issued no updates during the month of September.
