Vaumara Rebelo will represent her country Angola at the Miss Universe beauty pageant this year.

Born in Luanda, 22-year-old Rebelo is a third year student of business management and economics student at the Miami Dade College in the U.S. The model recently won the Miss Angola USA 2012 title where she was considered the favorite by the judges and the public.

She was later crowned Miss Angola 2013 during a gala held by the National Committee at the Conference Centre of the Bellas in Luanda on December 21, 2012. Almost 26 beauty contestants participated in the contest before she won. After winning the contest, Rebelo said, "I am not the most beautiful of all, but the most blessed." Rebelo received a new car, cash prizes, a DSTV paid package and a year of paid hair dressing.

Rebelo admitted that she had to work hard for the win and said that some of the preparations she took for the beauty pageant were to focus on interpersonal communication and the integration of youth towards a healthy, successful and productive society.

The beauty pageant is seen as a way of promoting woman who are goal-oriented and aware of the world around them. The preliminary competition of Miss Universe will be held on November 5 when the top 15 contestants will be decided. The Miss Universe 2013 beauty pageant will be held on November 9 in Moscow. The new Miss Universe will be crowned by the current winner Olivia Culpo. Culpo, a Rhode Island native, was recently involved in a legal incident in India after a Miss Universe photoshoot at the Taj Mahal.
