On the latest episode of "The Good Wife," Diane threw Will under the proverbial bus, and Will tried, but ultimately failed to push Diane out of the firm.

On last Sunday's episode, "A Precious Commodity," Diane (Christine Baranksi) told a newspaper reporter about the money Will (Josh Charles) previously pinched, and how they both agreed that it has been the wrong thing to do. The reporter calls Will to ask if he's stolen any more money, which reflects badly on the firm.

Meanwhile, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) is working on a case in which a couple is having a child via a surrogate, but the baby has an ailment that guarantees that it will die a few days after its birth. The couple wants to terminate the pregnancy, but the surrogate refuses. The couple then fires Alicia for not forcing the surrogate to terminate the ill-fated pregnancy. The couple then proceeds to sue the surrogate. The judge rules that the surrogate has control over the body, and cannot be forced to terminate the pregnancy.

Later, Alicia goes to a secret meeting with her new firm to discuss leaving Lockart/Gardner, which they decide will be in two weeks.

Will also holds a meeting to compose an attractive exit package for Diane to entice her to leave the firm. Diane rejects the package, so Will asks Alicia if she would like to take Diane's place. Alicia decides to consider the offer, to Cary's (Matt Czuchry) chagrin. Nevertheless, after seeing how Will dealt with Diane, Alicia tells Cary that if they still want to strike out on their own with a new firm, they have to do it very soon.

In addition, the new head to the ethics committee is getting flirty with Peter (Chris Noth), which will probably not end well. At the same time, Peter is pushing Alicia to renew their vows.

On the next episode, "Outside the Bubble," the firm is being sued for being a hostile workplace. There will also be a great deal of contentious office politics as Diane's Supreme Court Candidacy puts her at odds with Will.

The promo also shows a sneak preview of the anticipated Oct. 27 episode, which is being called the "episode that will change everything." In the preview, Will is seen knocking everything off Alicia's desk in a rage. He then sternly says, "Get out of here, Alicia."

However, one anticipated storyline--specifically regarding Kalinda, played by Archie Panjabi--is over before it started.

TVLine reports that Juliet Rylance, who was set to debut in the premiere as Holly, a smart Assistant State's Attorney who knew Kalinda previously, will not appear in the series.

Rylance shot some scenes for the season opener, but they were cut due to time constraints.

In an interview with AfterEllen.com in July, series co-creator Robert King described Holly as a "party girl" who possesses a "passionate side," adding, "She feels like Kalinda is closeted and she really should announce herself, that it's wrong for her to be so withdrawn about her sexuality. And with Kalinda it's not a political thing. She's not closeted, she's really private. There's this real disconnect between the two of them."

According to TVLine, Rylance's role in Cinemax's 10-episode Steven Soderbergh drama "The Knick" is what led to her "Good Wife" exit.
