It's still 2013, but that hasn't stopped tech junkies from beginning to speculate on Samsung's next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. The latest bit out of the rumor mill indicates that the Galaxy S5 should be equipped with a 14 nanometer 64-bit processor dubbed "Exynos 6."

The report comes to us via Korean news outlet DDaily, which states that Samsung is set to start production of 14 nanometer processor chips instead of the standard 28 nanometer chips. Apparently, the processors will support 64 bit computing and debut on Samsung's Galaxy S5 handsets. Production samples of the Exynos 6 are expected by the end of year.

The report has not been officially confirmed by Samsung, so be sure to treat it with a healthy dose of salt. Samsung is still pushing the Galaxy S4, its 2013 flagship, and the company has yet to announce any details concerning the Galaxy S5, which is expected to release during the first half of 2014. Still, this isn't the first time we're hearing of 64-bit support.

Apple opened the gates in September when it announced its new iPhone 5S contains a 64-bit processor. It was then revealed that Google might be including the feature in Android 4.4 KitKat (set to debut sometime in October). Rumors have already indicated Samsung might include a 64-bit processor in the Galaxy S5, presumably to help bridge the gap between desktop and mobile computing interfaces and to combat Apple.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 could be announced as early as January due to sagging Galaxy S4 sales. The Galaxy S5 is also rumored to come with a metal casing and a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. The phone should also be waterproof and dustproof.
