It might not be one of the hottest smartphones on the market at the moment, but the LG Optimus G might be one of the first non-Nexus devices to rock Android 4.4 KitKat. If a LG France is correct, the handset will get Android 4.4 in October.

The information comes to us thanks to a private Facebook conversation between an LG customer and LG France.

Of course, this has to be taken with a huge dose of salt. Not only is the LG Optimus G an outdated handset by today's standards, it's not even one of LG's current popular phones. It's hard to believe that LG would beat Samsung and HTC to the punch only to have Android 4.4 land on the Optimus G instead of its newer devices.

However, there is the fact that LG is the rumored manufacturer of the Nexus 5, meaning the company definitely has some ins with Google. The Mountain View search giant is expected to reveal Android 4.4 KitKat alongside the Nexus 5 in mid-October, so there's a chance LG is aggressively pursuing more Android promotion.

The news, while encouraging, will simply have to be confirmed officially before it can be taken seriously. Social media branches of tech companies have been known to give the wrong dates in the past, and there is the chance the LG France representative was referring to another version of Android. It's simply too hard to see the LG Optimus G getting Android 4.4 ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, or Sony Xperia Z.
