A 24-year-old-man was bit Tuesday by a rattlesnake while he helped a turtle cross a highway in Miami-Dade.

According to the report by the local fire brigade, quoted by El Nuevo Herald, the man, who has not been identified, was transported to the Regional Memorial Hospital and hospitalized in the intensive care unit, where he is being attended by the poison response unit of the Miami-Dade Fire Brigade.

The events took place around 1:20 p.m., EST local time, according to El Nuevo Herald. The spokesperson for the fire brigade, Michelle Fayed, said that: "this kind of rattlesnake can inject up to 800 milligrams of poison in a single bite," and only 70 milligrams are needed to affect the human body.

According to the story, that this is the second rattlesnake bite case in two weeks in the region. On Sept. 28, a park ranger was attacked in the Everglades National Park when he looked for tools in a storage area closet.

The medics, quoted by Telemundo, pointed out that the snakes could have been babies, since in both cases, the patients have successfully recovered; the rattlesnake is one of the deadliest snakes in the United States.
