Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte will give a performance in front of the U.S. Congress Tuesday as part of the event "Camino Americano," a march that has summoned hundreds of people to protest in Washington to demand that President Obama stop the deportations of undocumented immigrants from the U.S.

Jorge Hernández, member of the popular band, said on the phone from Washington that it's necessary that U.S. House Speaker John Boehner opens the debate to vote on immigration reform, according to Mexican newspaper Excélsior.

"I think that as immigrants, it's important to raise our voices and be with the people in this cause. It's a commitment from us to all these people", Hernández said, according to the newspaper.

Organizations from all corners of the U.S. have made a call to protest at the National Mall of Washington D.C., in which the popular Mexican band will participate, along with other Latino artists like Lila Downs, informed Mexican newspaper La Jornada.

Stopping the Deportations

"In these years of his administration, we've seen that statistics show there's been a lot of deportations. I would ask him to stop them if I could talk to him (Obama)", said the singer of the band, quoted by Excélsior.

Jorge Hernández, along with his brothers Luis, Hernán, Eduardo and his cousin Óscar Lara comprise the band, reminisced on the phone of their experiences in 1968, when all of them were undocumented, after being abandoned in San José, Calif., as minors.

"But it's nice that now we can give back some of what we've achieved and help immigrants", the singer said.

It's expected that during their presentation at the National Mall, Los Tigres del Norte will play 20 songs, in which the theme of immigration will be prevalent. According to the Mexican source, the songs "Vivan Los Mojados", "Tres Veces Mojado", "Mojado Acaudalado" and other popular songs like "La Jaula De Oro", "La Puerta Negra" and "Jefe De Jefes" will be some of the songs the veteran band plans to play during the event.
