At least 9 people were killed and over 100 were injured on October 5 in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, after the driver of a monster truck lost control in the "Extremo Aeroshow" and veered towards spectators.

According to Mexican magazine Proceso in its website, around 100 people were injured after the monster truck ran them over in the middle of a show in Chihuahua city, Chihuahua. The truck, with an approximate weight of four tons, went out of control. Nine were confirmed dead, although unofficial figures claim 13 people died.

Among the victims, 65 were hospitalized, among them 20 minors between one and 14 years of age. Some of the spectators are sure they had seen the monster truck's driver pass out after making a jump in the vehicle.

Quoted by Mexican newspaper El Universal, the governor of Chihuahua, César Duarte, pointed out that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, after toxicology reports confirmed it, but said that the real causes of the accident are still unknown. The governor declared three days of mourning throughout the state and all public acts were suspended.

Newspaper Crónica published an interview with the mayor of Chihuahua city, Marco Quezada Martínez, where he says city hall will take care of all medical expenses of those injured and funeral costs for the deceased, regretting the tragic event despite "security measures undertaken to guarantee the safety of spectators", adding that he would look for a way to overcome this crisis in his community and make sure the injured and their families get the best attention possible.

A video uploaded to YouTube shows the moment in which a red truck rams into the public while some people manage to get away and others run to help the injured.

In the latest statements published on the morning of Monday, October 7 by newspaper Milenio, César Duarte pointed out that the latest blood tests on Francisco Velázquez Samaniego, identified as the driver responsible for the tragedy, do not reflect alcohol levels corresponding to a drunken state.

"The blood tests don't reflect an alcohol percentage high enough to denote a drunken state, however his own statements manifest that the lack of skill and direct responsibility of the driving of the truck caused the accident", the governor of Chihuahua detailed.
