Mexican Tenor Rolando Villazon Hints at a Reunion With Anna Netrebko

Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon could reunite for an upcoming project.

The Mexican tenor told Kleinezeitung that if they found the right work they would reunite. He said, "I hope that we can find a project."

It is not the first time Villazon has hinted at a possible reunion. Recently he told Opera News that he would like to sing with her again after the two recorded a track together for the Russian soprano's new album "Verdi." He said, "It was great! But I don't think either of us wanted to be primarily a singing duo. I would love to sing with her again, and I recently sang for her Verdi CD, but our voices have gone in very different directions now."

Netrebko and Villazon first rose to fame in 2005 with their performances in "La Traviata" at the Salzburg Festival. They became known as the golden couple of opera and collaborated on "La Boheme," "Rigoletto," "Romeo et Juliette," "L'Elisir d'Amore" and "Manon." The duo also collaborated on a CD entitled "Duets" and headlined the Met's 40^th Anniversary Gala. Their last performance together was on the Met stage in a heavily criticized revival of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor."

Villazon next performs at the Berlin Staatsoper in Mozart's "Don Giovanni." He will then make his Metropolitan Opera comeback in a revival of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" as Lensky.

Netrebko next makes her role debut as Leonora in "Il Trovatore" at the Berlin State Opera and her role debut as Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth" at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She will also debut at the Rome Opera in Puccini's "Manon Lescaut."
