Destiny, the new series being made by the creators of Halo, Bungie, looks to set a new standard for gamers when it releases on both current and next-gen consoles. The game will mix innovative multiplayer experiences with traditional shooter and RPG elements, and now Bungie has released a new trailer for the game centered on one of the settings for the game: the moon.
The trailer begins with a shot of the moon from the last city on Earth, as a narrator explains that while mankind looked to space for hope, hostile forces were observing us. A shot from the moon shows the Earth in the background as a skeleton in a space suit is seen on the surface. From there, the trailer shows a massive base dug into the moon, where alien forces have gathered for centuries inside the core of the moon waiting. This provides new details about the nature of the alien threat that players will have to deal with while playing the game.
Next, the trailer switches to gameplay footage as a spaceship leaves Earth to investigate the moon. Several players are seen approaching some structures, only for the enemy creatures to begin firing on the humans. Combat similar to Halo is seen, as players sprint to cover while energy weapons fire at them and players use more traditional human guns to counter attack. Even more similar to Halo, a large alien swings a sword at one of the players.
The players appear to break through the hostile defenses and gain access to the subterranean portion of the moon, which the aliens have called home for centuries. The setting seems much more closed in than previous previews of the game, as players must navigate tight tunnels and engage enemies in caverns where mobility is limited.
The humans are seen to have various different abilities, such as balls of energy that function like grenades and melee attacks that involve lightning. As waves of enemy forces close in on players, they must fend off the aliens using some heavy duty weaponry, and the action is chaotic as explosions so off and bullets fly in every direction.
Finally, the characters in the trailer reach a giant alien that is chained up, who lets out a roar and breaks free to attack the players. The trailer ends with the humans shooting at the monster, before the game's title hits with a spring 2014 release date and info about signing up for the game's beta.
