Samsung's Galaxy S4 smartphone has been scheduled for an Android update to 4.3 Jelly Bean by the end of October, allowing it to finally interact with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. While Bluetooth 4.0 LE support (found only in Android 4.3) is required for full connectivity with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, it looks as if basic functions between the two devices already work.

Samsung Mobile executive vice president for marketing Lee Young-hee recently announced that the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Gear would be working in tandem at their full capacities by the end of October. What this essentially translates to is: Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S4 is coming by the October. As mentioned above, the Galaxy Gear requires Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, and that can only be found in Android 4.3.

However, a video has surfaced online showing off how the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Gear already can perform basic functions with each other.

The user is apparently able to change clock themes, control the music playing from the Galaxy S4, access reminder alerts, and more, all without Android 4.3. It is important to note, however, that some Galaxy Gear features, such as its app support, can only currently be accessed with the Galaxy Note 3, which already runs Android 4.3.

Samsung has allegedly already started the testing for the Android 4.3 Galaxy S4 update. The South Korean electronics manufacturer announced in early September that it would be focusing its efforts on rolling out Android 4.3 for the Galaxy S4 by October, most likely in an effort to pair its popular flagship smartphone with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
