Paris Saint-Germain will look to take hold of first place when it faces off against Valenciennes on Wednesday.

The team has had a week filled with mixed news. On the positive side of the spectrum, PSG recently earned an extra year of commitment from its top star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The eternal journeyman will play with the club through the 2014-15 season.

"I cannot see greater ambition in Europe than that of Paris Saint-Germain," Ibrahimovic said, according to ESPN. "I wholeheartedly wish that Paris Saint-Germain be my last big club. This club is like me -- for us, the dream is never big enough."

However, the team will be without top defender Thiago Silva for several weeks. The Brazilian was injured during a 1-1 draw between PSG and AS Monaco this weekend.

"Him coming off changed things, that's for sure," Coach Laurent Blanc said, according to ESPN. "It's no coincidence that we conceded a goal four minutes later. We're going to do some tests, but I think that we've lost him for a while. You have to be realistic. You can't lose Thiago Silva without experiencing some uncertainty."

Valenciennes sits in 19th place in the Ligue 1 after a tough start to the season. The club won its opener against Toulouse 3-0 but has failed to register a single point in the following five games; the team has only scored one goal in that span.

Prediction: PSG will face a tough challenge but will win 2-0.

Start Time: 1 p.m. EST
