Chelsea will start its Capital One Cup campaign against Swindon Town on Tuesday.
The Blues managed to snap a five game winless streak this past weekend with a 2-0 win over Fulham.
The team has a busy slate in coming weeks, including a Premier League match this weekend and a crucial Champions League match next week. There have been questions about how Coach Jose Mourinho might rotate his squad, but the Portuguese manager has not been particularly vocal. He did talk to the media about his controversial use of midfielder Juan Mata and noted that he wanted the Spaniard to play his way back into a starting spot.
"I understand that lots of people like very much Mata and believe that he should be in that position. I believe the evolution of the team is to play with Oscar and Mata together, but one has to adapt for that to happen," he said, according to ESPN. "Oscar as a number 10 gives us creativity, but when we want to press, Oscar is a runner and we have our idea. We stick with our idea."
He added, "Juan has to learn to play the way I want to play. He has to be more consistent, has to be more participative when the team loses the ball, and I think it is not his fault. It is just a consequence of the way he played in the last few years."
Mata was seen by many as Chelsea's most valuable player over the last few seasons. However, the Spaniard has only made minimal appearances for the club since the start of the season.
