The second season of "The Mindy Project," which recently debuted, will feature Danny fearing for his safety due to a wacked-out ex-girlfriend.

Danny (Chris Messina) will try to fend off his stalker-like ex-girlfriend, Amy-- who is also his neighbor--due to her scary obsession with him. TVLine confirms that Danny will try to throw Amy off his case by having Mindy pose as his girlfriend, which only creates new problems.

The new season also includes some good news for Adam Pally fans. TVLine reported that new cast member Adam Pally has been upped to series regular. The "Happy Endings" actor signed on to play an arc as a "bro"-like doctor at the OB/GYN practice where Mindy works. Pally's character has now been promoted to a series regular, meaning fans of the show will be seeing a lot more of Pally for a long time.

Yet, not every character on the show will be happy that Pally's character, Peter, will be sticking around. When Jeremy's (Ed Weeks) father, Alfred, comes to visit the office, he and Peter get along so well that Alfred invites Peter to dinner, much to Jeremy's chagrin. Alfred and Peter get along swimmingly, while Alfred does nothing but criticize Jeremy.

As for Mindy, she will be spending more time with the show's male characters than her female companions.

"There are not a lot of plans to see Mindy's girlfriends," executive producer Jack Burditt told TVLine. "But I also think we may touch upon the fact that she doesn't spend a lot of time with her girlfriends, either."

Mindy will also see her relationship crumble at the start of the forthcoming season. Mindy Kaling spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her relationship status next season.

"Mindy gets to be single again," Kaling revealed.

Although her engagement to the Pastor, Peter Casey (Anders Holm) will meet a quick end, there will be new men to keep Mindy very busy next season.

In addition to Pally's hilariously stereotypical character, James Franco is joining the cast of season two to play a new doctor who starts working at Mindy's practice while she's in Haiti with Pastor Casey. "I come back to my nemesis, played by James Franco," Kaling teased.

Some guests are also coming back for the second season. Mindy's dentist ex, played by Bill Hader, will be back, as well as Danny's sometimes-wife (Chloe Sevigny) and Pastor Casey, who might only be featured in the new season for a couple more episodes.
