Apple's latest mobile operating system is reportedly a positive for the New York Police Department (NYPD) in their mission to reduce crime.
Tweets have appeared about NYPD officers distributing fliers at random Subway stations recommending iPhone owners to update their smartphone to iOS 7.

One Twitter user also reported about NYPD officers standing outside Apple stores with the fliers on hand.
The fliers featured the title "Public Awareness Notice Attention Apple Users!!!!"
The flier stated, "As of Wednesday, September 18, 2013, the new iOS7 software update available for your Apple product brings added security to your devices."
According to the NYPD, iOS 7 cannot be reprogrammed if the device gets lost or stolen. Furthermore, the police department made it clear on how downloading the latest Apple mobile operating system is free.
iOS 7 has apparently received a positive review from the New York (NY) attorney general (AG). In a joint statement with the San Francisco (SF) District Attorney (DA), NY AG Eric Schneiderman said, "After months of pressure from a global coalition of elected officials and law enforcement agencies, we are pleased that Apple is set to release a new mobile operating system that includes a theft deterrent feature called Activation Lock. This is an important first step towards ending the global epidemic of smartphone theft."
Schneiderman and the SF DA noted that while it might be early to claim the Activation Lock will be a "comprehensive solution" to reduce theft, it can serve as a step forward.
"We also encourage Apple to make Activation Lock a fully opt-out solution in order to guarantee widespread adoption, and strongly urge the other leading manufacturers of smartphones to quickly implement effective theft deterrents that protect their customers from violent crime."
iOS 7 is available for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini and the fifth generation of the iPod touch.
