Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners have been patiently waiting for a new Android update for months now, and while the next version of Android is still in the works, AT&T is pushing out a small Galaxy Note 2 upgrade of its own.

Beginning last week, the second largest carrier in the United States released an OTA update bumping the Galaxy Note 2's baseband version up to I317UCAMH3. The file weighs in at 165MB and includes nothing noteworthy except an update to AT&T and Google apps. That's right folks, the update literally adds no new functions or features, so there's not much incentive to even download it. The real deal should start rolling out in October.

For those who haven't been following the Galaxy Note 2 update drama, the handset was originally tipped to receive Android 4.2.2 during summer 2013. Instead, reports began trickling out that there might be issues with porting over some TouchWiz features from the Galaxy S4 over to older devices, and most speculated Samsung would hold off on Android 4.2.2 until the fall in order to help push Galaxy S4 sales. Then came the bombshell that Samsung would be skipping Android 4.2.2 completely, with the company refocusing its efforts on pushing out Android 4.3 for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in October.

As usual, the October release time frame refers mostly to international Galaxy Note 2s. For those tied into U.S. carrier networks, which are known to be some of the slowest at releasing Android updates in the world, the upgrade will take much longer to land.

If you're a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owner, are you happy with Samsung's decision to hold off until Android 4.3 for the Galaxy Note 2? Or would you have rather had an Android 4.2.2 update by now? Let us know in the comments section below.
