The New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers will renew their rivalry in a preseason game on Tuesday.

The Rangers made few changes in the offseason and are looking to build on their playoff performance from 2012-13. Last season the team went all the way to the Eastern Conference semifinals where they were eliminated by the Boston Bruins. The team's biggest change was behind the bench where Alain Vigneault took over for former coach John Tortorella.

The Rangers are coming off a 2-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils in an exhibition game; Vigneault recognizes that the team still has a lot of work to do to improve.

"There's obviously room for improvement without a doubt," said Vigneault, according to Blue Shirts United. "It was our first exhibition game, first time veterans and younger players got a chance to step on the ice and get the rust off. It was a first step and it's going to get better."

The Flyers did have a few overhauls during the summer, including the additions of Mark Streit, Vincent Lecavalier and Ray Emery. Streit is expected to give the team more stability on the blue line while Lecavalier will likely be looked to as a top-end second line center. However, Emery's contribution is more questionable at this point as he will be competing with Steve Mason over the No. 1 goalie position for the Flyers.

Philadelphia has played three preseason games and has one win and two losses. The team lost 4-3 against Toronto on Sunday before taking down the Leafs in one of two matches Philadelphia played on Monday; in the other Monday game, the Flyers lost to the Washington Capitals.
