Djimon Hounsou will star in "Fast and Furious 7."

Variety reported that the Oscar-nominated actor would join the cast in an unknown role. No details have been revealed regarding the plot of the film.

James Wan will direct the film and recently told Cinemablend that he wanted the audience to get excited for the movie. "I think what I can bring to it is my understanding and love for suspense and thrill, you know, like edge of your seat sort of thrill and so, I want my drama scenes and my action sequences, right, to have you on the edge of your seat, not too dissimilar to what they have in the first 'Die Hard' film, which I love," said Wan.

Hounsou is best known for his work on "Blood Diamond," "Gladiator," "In America" and "The Island." He will next be seen in Fox Searchlight's "Baggage Claim." He will also appear in 2014's "Seventh Son," Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2."

The actor will join Kurt Russell, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Rhonda Rousey in the new movie.

The last "Fast and Furious" film was released this summer, grossing $238 million domestically and $786 million worldwide. The movie also scored rave reviews with the critical consensus on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes stating, "With high-octane humor and terrific action scenes, 'Fast & Furious 6' builds upon the winning blockbuster formula that made Fast 5 a critical and commercial success."

The new movie is slated to be released on July 11, 2014.
