Latino artists Lila Downs, Gloria Estefan, Raúl Malo, Ricky Martin, Price Royce, Arturo Sandoval, Romeo Santos, Alejandro Sanz, Marco Antonio Solís and Natalie Cole have been invited to share the stage in the White House as a part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.
According to information published in newspaper Vanguardia, the office of the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, issued a press release which reports that the previously mentioned artists have been invited by the President Barack Obama to be part of the concert which will take place in the White House September 16 in celebration of the Independence festivities of various Latin American countries.
The concert and the ceremony will be broadcast live at 7 p.m., EST on Monday through the White House's website, and will be broadcast again by PBS next October 8 at 8 p.m. EST, the White House reported in the press release.
U.S. government officials have pointed out that this year's celebration, the twelfth ceremony dedicated to music in the White House since Barack Obama became President in 2009, "will celebrate the beauty and diversity of music: from the vivid rhythms of Central America and the Caribbean, to the beautiful sounds of South America".
Before the ceremony, First Lady Michelle Obama will greet 130 high school students from Washington, where a workshop titled "Celebrating Latino Rhythms: The History of Music" will take place and in which Latino artists Lila Downs, Santos and Solís will answer questions from the guest students.
