Super Smash Bros. 4 Character News: Peach Confirmed for Game, Release Date Set for 2014

The latest addition to the Super Smash Bros. 4 roster for the Wii U and 3DS is another returning character. Nintendo announced on the game's official website that Peach will be making her return to the popular series.

As predicted, Nintendo has maintained its pattern of announcing new characters for the game every month. The company has revealed yet another new character for the game, bringing the total number of confirmed characters to 15. Peach has appeared in every game in the Super Smash Bros. series, with the exception of the Nintendo 64 original. Nintendo recently released screenshots of the character in action for both the Wii U version of the game as well as the 3DS model of the character.

The inclusion of Peach in the latest Super Smash Bros. is hardly a surprise. The veteran character is one of the most popular Nintendo characters from the most popular Nintendo franchise of all time, and Peach has a fair share of fans in the Super Smash Bros. series, and her unique moveset (which includes using Toad as a shield and using a golf club as a weapon) has endeared her to fans of the franchise.

However, fans that were teased with the intruiging announcement of three new characters for the series at E3 have since had to deal with anti-climactic roster updates that merely confirmed characters fans already assumed would be included in the final game roster. After the Wii Fit Trainer, the Villager from Animal Crossing and Capcom's Mega Man were announced for the game, fans began wondering what other exciting new additions would be coming. But since then, the characters confirmed for the game were Olimar and his Pikmin, Luigi, and now Peach. If Nintendo wants to keep fans interested in the game, they may want to announce some new or unexpected characters soon, instead of announcing more returning characters such as Yoshi, Captain Falcon and Falco that fans likely already assume will be in the game, despite not be confirmed yet by Nintendo. Perhaps the company will have a few surprises in store for fans at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs from Sept. 19-22.
