Apple has announced the iPhone 5's successor, but it might not be vastly different when it comes to the smartphone's specifications.

The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s were both announced and went on sale during the September month and shared the same price range and internal storage models. The 16GB model of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s are priced at $199, $299 for 32GB, and 64GB for $399.

Apple, however, has removed the iPhone 5 from its official website to make room for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

When it comes to display, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 have the same screen size of 4 inches and 1,136x620 resolution at 326 pixels per inch. The smartphone also utilizes the Corning Gorilla Glass for protection with oleophobic coating.

The wireless connectivity for the Apple smartphones is the same as well with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and USB version 2.0.

The camera specifications are also similar.

The rear-facing camera has 8 megapixels with 3,264x2,448 pixels. The iPhone 5s, however, utilizes the new True Tone Flash, while the predecessor has LED flash. The rear-facing cameras for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s record at 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps).

The camera similarities continue with the front-facing camera as the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s have 1.2 megapixels and can record at 720p at 30 fps.

The major differences between the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 are their mobile operating systems and chipsets.

The iPhone 5 has been utilizing the iOS 6 and A6 processor chip. The iPhone 5s will use the new iOS 7, which rolls out to other Apple devices on Sept. 18, and will use the A7 chip. The iPhone 5s also has an additional chip known as the M7 motion coprocessor.

A distinctive new feature with the iPhone 5s' A7 chip is the fingerprint sensor.

According to GSMArena, the battery capacity for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 is the same with 1,440mAh. The battery life time is better on the iPhone 5s with 250 hours on standby and 10 hours of talk time when under a 3G network. The iPhone 5's standby and talk times are two hours less than the iPhone 5s.

Apple has also revised the color options for the iPhone 5s. While the iPhone 5 has been available in black and white, Apple has announced the iPhone 5s will be available in black, "Space Gray" and gold.
