Take a deep breath. The hour of the Sons has passed. They’re back and they’re here to stay. After the long wait and the treacherous ride across sun beaten highways, they’ve made it. Brace yourselves.

Tuesday’s Season 6 premiere reminded viewers that the show is not for the weak. Featuring a gnarly murder, gritty prison sequences and a young boy that organizes an elementary school shootout. Fans were left flabbergasted, their jaws glued to the floor, and now to help alleviate the initial shock, creator Kurt Sutter talks about the grisly premiere and what’s in store for the show’s biggest characters.

Sutter began touching upon his decision to include the school shootout, especially in the wake of last year’s tragic events. “The timing of it is somewhat controversial, but it is something I knew I wanted to do for a couple years now, and I know it would be a series of events that would have to [occur]... as we kind of slide towards the end of our mythology. Things are never done in a vacuum, meaning there are ramifications to everything, whether it be legal consequences or emotional consequences of familiar consequences.”

“It changes their relationships with the Irish, because now Jax has the emotional catalyst he needs to motivate [everyone]… to not be in guns,” he added, expanding on the ramifications following the shooting. “It impacts his relationship with the DA and with Toric, and we’ll really see the relationship shift within the town of Charming and how suddenly the favorite Sons, or at least the accepted Sons, are seen as a danger and potentially more of a pariah than a savior.”

Meanwhile, Tara adjusts to her new life in prison, which will prove detrimental to her relationship with Jax. Right now, Jax has this disconnect from Tara. He feels shut out by her,” Sutter said while hinting at a new romantic interest for Jax. There’s just something [there] – not to get weird and incestuous, but I think his connection to [Kim Dickens’ Madame] is almost maternal in those moments.”

There’s plenty more “Sons of Anarchy” on the horizon, and if the premiere episode is any indication, the season won’t fall short of what was promised. The best season yet has arrived.

"Sons of Anarchy" airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
