'Burn Notice' Season 7 Spoilers: Will Michael and Fiona Get a Happy Ending?

Fans will soon have to say a tearful goodbye to hit USA drama "Burn Notice." Although the series finale will sadden fans of the long-running series, the episode will not disappoint fans who are hopeless romantics.

Series creator Matt Nix hinted to TVLine that despite their tribulations, Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) and Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) may actually get a happy ending. 

"Without being coy, I think that fans of Michael and Fiona will experience the full range of emotions over these last two episodes," Nix said. "Nothing has ever been easy for them, and I think it's fitting that it's not easy at the end. For me, it's always been less about depicting a happy relationship than about showing two people who love each other very much and are struggling to find a way to reconcile that love with who they are."

"There will be a lot of worrying and fingernail biting over the course of these two episodes, but... I don't think I'll be getting hate mail from the romantics in the audience at the end of the day," Nix continued. 

Jeffrey Donovan and Gabrielle Anwar spoke to TV Guide about the fate of the characters' relationship. "There would be a national revolution if Fi and Michael didn't get together," Donovan said. Anwar also said that she wants the couple to reunite. "It's such a romantic idea - that would be my favorite," Anwar said. 

The series finale also promises to have more unexpected twists and turns. "The finale is not entirely happy," Nix said. "But it was important to me that everyone gets a heroic moment, and they do."

Donovan shared a few more details about the show's farewell episode. "There's a huge tragedy for one of the principal characters, but it's for all the right reasons," Donovan said. "And it's mirrored by a beautiful family moment that fans are going to love and that will resolve this journey of seven seasons."

Fans will be happy to hear that although it appears like Michael has gone to the dark side, he will be back to his normal self soon enough. Michael's CIA handlers sent him undercover as a member of an ostensibly villainous group. Nix confirms that viewers should not be worried about Michael's fate. "It has to get darkest before the dawn," Nix said.

The series finale of "Burn Notice" will air on September 12 on the USA Network.
