President Obama will address the nation Tuesday night to make his case for military action against Syria's regime, which is believed to have used chemical weapons against its civilians and rebel forces on August 21.

Originally, the president tried to avoid getting involved in the sectarian war in Syria which has resulted in the death of over 100,000 people and 2 million refugees within the last two years. However, President Obama claims that the use of chemical warfare crossed the "red line," and now he is urging congress to approve his resolution to launch a limited military strike against Syria over a range of up to 90 days. However, there is intense public and congressional opposition to the president's resolutions, with polls revealing that 60 percent of Americans oppose military action against Syria.

Given the new diplomatic track, and the fact that Obama may not have enough support in Congress, the Senate postponed a vote that had been scheduled for Wednesday while the Republican-run House has not scheduled a vote on Syria.

"I'll explain this is not Iraq; this is not Afghanistan; this is not even Libya," Obama told PBS during one of six television interviews conducted Monday, reports USA Today. "We're talking about a very specific set of strikes to degrade his chemical weapons capabilities in terms of delivery."

Obama also said Monday he will also work with aides to pursue a diplomatic proposal from Russia, which says it will ask Syrian President Bashar Assad, their ally, to put his chemical weapons under international control.

Obama is likely to address diplomacy during the Syria speech which will broadcast tonight at the White House at tonight at 9 p.m. EST. Watch it via live stream below or click here.
