Windows Phone 8 Amber Update in UK: Nokia Lumia Amber Update Available for Lumia 920, Lumia 820 With Carrier O2 [Video]

The Windows Phone 8 Amber Update is now available on new Nokia Lumia devices in the United Kingdom.

As Latinos Post reported, the Windows Phone 8 Amber Update was already available for the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 from carrier Vodafone.

The update was officially made available for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 as well on carrier O2.

A "Country variant" Lumia 920 is also accepting the Windows Phone 8 Amber Update.

Meanwhile, Nokia has confirmed the Lumia 520, Lumia 620, and Lumia 720 will also receive the updates, but the smartphones have different release dates.

As for the Lumia 520, the Windows Phone 8 device is "Waiting for approval" with carriers 3 UK, Everything Everywhere (EE) and O2. The Vodafone variant of the Lumia 520 is listed as "Coming soon."

Nokia has defined the term "waiting for approval" as undergoing final test with either the specific country or mobile carrier before approval. The definition for "coming soon" means the update has been approved but is in "final pre-release checks."

The Lumia 620 is also awaiting approval from carriers 3 UK, Virgin Mobile, and Vodafone, but is "Coming soon" via O2.

The Lumia 720's Windows Phone 8 Amber Update will apparently be available with only O2, but its subscribers will have to wait pending approval.

O2 and Vodafone are not the only carriers to rollout the Amber Update for the Lumia 820. EE is in the waiting phase.

Finally, the Lumia 920's update is coming soon from 3 UK, but is "waiting for approval" from EE.

One of the main enhancements with the Windows Phone 8 Amber Update are the improvements to the smartphone's camera, particularly the auto focus, noise filter, and low-light photo-taking capabilities, to name a few tweaks.

As Latinos Post reported, Nokia did not rollout the Windows Phone 8 Amber Update in one huge distribution to ensure "quality standards."

"To ensure the software update meets our quality standards, we're running multiple tests with various country variants and operators," wrote Nokia Conversations' Ian Delaney. "We make the updates available to you as soon as we complete testing. With Lumia Amber we expect to have the update arriving in all Lumia Windows Phone 8 phones by the end of September. Be patient - it's coming!"
