Some relationships are meant to be. Others are not. Throughout the history of film and television, there have been countless romances that have transcended the generations as the most classic love stories of all time. Harry and Sally, Harold and Maude, even Beauty and the Beast. There are others that live in infamy, that have tarnished the world by mere existence. Think on some of your own past relationships. Or your best friend’s. We’ve all seen them. Most of us have participated. They’re not pretty. But it’s those that near perfection that keep us going. They tickle our hearts and inspire hope.

It can be devastating when something so beautiful, something that fits so seamlessly goes awry. There’s never rhyme or reason to their termination, it just happens, and it’s tragic. Thus fans of “The Big Bang Theory” were discouraged when the show split Raj and Lucy in the Season 6 finale. So what do they do? They look ahead to the bright future, hoping that Season 7 will rekindle their romance and set everything right in the universe. And lucky for them, executive producer Steve Molaro shares inspiring words.

“The door was intentionally left wide open” for Kate Micucci, who plays Lucy, to return as Raj’s ex. “Raj said at the end of Season 6, ‘I pushed it too hard. I need to give her some space.’ And he’s still heartbroken about Lucy and sort of picking up the pieces and trying to move forward… But I love those characters together.”

While nothing is set in stone, his words leave a glimmer hope. Besides, classic romances always go through their ups and downs. It’s what makes their eventual eternal bond so powerful in the end. Hopefully Raj and Lucy will find theirs before the series’ close.

“The Big Bang Theory” returns to CBS on September 26.
