'Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales' New Update: Director Espen Sandberg Reveals He Wants To Make New Film Fresh

Espen Sandberg has revealed his plans for the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales."

The new director told Best Movies Ever that he and his directing partner Joachim Ronning were looking to make the film both emotional, comic and fresh. He stated, "We want to make this fifth one feel fresh again with both the comedy and emotional elements in the great script from Jeff Nathanson."

Sanderberg continued, "We both grew up on all those great 80s epic adventure films like Indiana Jones, and it's still unbelievable that we're now in the process of making one. The script is really funny and touching, and it's exciting to bring this vision to the big screen."

Sandberg also revealed how they got the job for the new film. He explained: "We spent months of hard selling and chasing this opportunity, and I think the fact that we were so adamant on retaining the purity of the first Pirates movie really helped them choose us. Either that or we were the cheapest thing on the budget."

Roenning and Espen directed the Academy Award nominee "Kon-Tiki" in both English and Norwegian. The Norwegian duo has also directed "Bandidas" with Cruz and Salma Hayek, as well as "Max Manus."

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is currently in pre-production, but plot details have yet to be revealed. Johnny Depp is expected to reprise his character Captain Jack Sparrow. However, no other casting announcements have been made. The film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and will begin shooting in January in New Orleans.

Disney is set to distribute "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" in July 2015.
