Lance Bass Gets Engaged to Longtime Boyfriend

Lance Bass ended an already exciting week with a momentous event: a marriage proposal. 

Hollywood Life confirms that the 34-year-old singer got engaged to his longtime boyfriend, Michael Turchin, on August 25. Michael said yes after Lance presented him with a black diamond band while in New Orleans, La. It was also reported that Lance, being a true gentleman, texted Michael's parents to ask their permission. Turchin is an aspiring model and actor.

"He said YES!! Love this man," Bass tweeted on Sept. 1. He accompanied the tweet with a picture of him and Michael, with Lance pointing to Michael's ring.

"They're such a great couple, everyone is so happy for them," a source told Us Weekly. "Their friends and family are thrilled."

Turchin is also overjoyed. "Happiest guy in the world," he tweeted on Aug. 31. 

Bass and Turchin have been dating since December 2011. 

This week was a big one for Lance. In addition to his engagement, he participated in the hotly-ancticipated reunion of *NSYNC at the MTV Video Music Awards. The group reunited, albeit briefly, to perform as part of Justin Timberlake's epic performance before he accepted the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. 

All five group members reunited for a quick performance of "Girlfriend" and one of their biggest hits, "Bye, Bye, Bye." Fans screamed as the five members performed their signature dance moves, bringing viewers a dose of '90s nostalgia. After the performance, he put out a tweet that referred to his fiancée. 

"For the first time ever I got to perform w *NSYNC as an out entertainer and was thinking of this man," Bass tweeted along with a picture of himself and Turchin.

Bass came out publicly as gay in July 2006, three years after *NSYNC broke up. Bass coming out signaled a trend in performers and other public figures coming out, such as Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin. Performers and public figures are now more comfortable coming out because overall public opinion has shifted toward the acceptance of gay individuals and the support of gay marriage.
