This weekend "Getaway" will be released nationwide.

The new film, starring Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke, tells the story of a Former race car driver Brent Magna who must race against the clock when his wife is kidnapped by a mysterious villain.

The film recently premiered in Los Angeles and has obtained the worst reviews of the year. Ian Buckwalter of NPR disliked the movie and stated, "The nonsense piles up nearly as fast as the smashed, flipped, T-boned and otherwise trashed cop cars chasing after Ethan Hawke's laughably named Brent Magna and his sidekick, 'The Kid.'"

Christy Lemire of ChristyLemire.com gave the movie one and a half stars out of four: "'Getaway' might have been enjoyable as a mindless bit of dumb, late-summer entertainment if it had been vaguely coherent."

Kykle Smith of the New York Post was similarly unimpressed. "Getaway" is so bad that what's most surprising about it is that Nicolas Cage didn't manage to star in it," wrote Smith.

Frank Lovalace of Newsday gave the film half a star out of four and said, "Not a single moment in this automotive snuff film isn't ridiculous, and its only mystery is why the estimable Ethan Hawke agreed to star."

John Defore of the Hollywood Reporter stated, "Brainless chase flick doesn't even offer guilty pleasures."

Bill GoodyKontz from the Arizona Republic also disliked the movie. "Maybe the title isn't a title, but an instruction: 'Getaway,' away from this movie, and fast."

Tom Russo of the Boston Globe gave the movie one star out of four and said, "It's hard to remember another action entry that expends so much energy on frenetic blacktop choreography and attention-deficit editing with so little to show for it."

Latinos Post wrote, "'Stay Away' would probably be a more fitting title for this debacle."

The film is directed by Courtney Solomon and also stars Jon Voight. Warner Bros. will release the movie in 2,130 theaters. "Getaway" is rated PG-13 for intense action, violence and mayhem throughout, some rude gestures and language.
