Chelsea and Bayern Munich face off in the European Super Cup Friday.

The match pits the Champions League and Europa League winners from last season. However, the game also features a rematch between the 2012 Champions League finalists.

"We do have a small score to settle, even if we can't completely wipe away the memory of losing the Champions League final," Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Muller said in an interview with Bayern's official site earlier this week "You don't always reach the Super Cup final, so we'll do everything we can to win the trophy."

"The atmosphere is great in the team and we've never won the Super Cup before so our task is to win it for Munich," added Bayern captain Phillip Lahm, according to ESPN. "It's an additional motivation."

For Chelsea, the match is a chance at redemption. After defeating Munich in the 2012 Champions League, the team was dispatched by Atletico Madrid in the 2012 version of the European Super Cup.

Another central storyline of the matchup is the battle between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. The two coaches are rivals dating back to their times in the Spanish League. Mourinho has claimed that Guardiola's Munich team is not as strong as the team was last year; however, most of the players have come to their coach's defense.

"He is a very meticulous worker who sets great store by tactics, thus we've started working on numerous aspects and I think we will still require some time to bring it up to perfection," Lahm said. "He is an excellent manager and we have immediately realized this since his arrival."

"Pep Guardiola has made a few changes to our team tactics but not really to us as individuals," Muller added. "Every player has his strengths and weaknesses. If Arjen [Robben] is out on the right, he does things differently compared to me in the same position."

Prediction: Munich manages a 2-1 win.
