Matt Damon has defended Ben Affleck after fanboys attacked the actor's casting as the new Batman.

Damon told the Times of India that he thought Affleck was a great chioce for the role. He stated, "I think it will be great. It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the Internet. I just think it's kind of funny. You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set."

The "Elysium" star also said that Affleck had been doing incredible work lately and that those who disliked him should watch his Oscar winning film "Argo." He said, "If anybody saw 'Argo' or 'The Town,' and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."

Damon also denied the rumors he was playing Robin.

"I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman. But it's safe to say I won't be Robin," Damon explained.

Damon was last seen in "Elysium" and will next be seen in "The Monuments Men" and "The Zero Theorem."

"Batman vs. Superman" is currently in pre-production with Zack Synder directing and Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven producing. The film is also set to star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. Warner Bros. will release the movie on July 17, 2015.
