With final roster cuts looming for the New England Patriots and Tim Tebow's fate with the team still up in the air, there is one person in the organization who would love to see the former Heisman Award winner latch on to the team: owner Bob Kraft.
"I'm rooting for him big time," Kraft told reporters prior to New England's annual kickoff gala. "I'm in his corner, but I have the privilege of letting Bill make those decisions. He has a pretty good record doing it."
Tebow survived Tuesday's roster cuts - with National Football League teams (NFL) having to trim their teams to 75 players - but has struggled during the preseason. During the August 9th preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Tebow went an erratic 4-for-12 with 55 passing yards along with 31 rushing yards on four carries and a dreadful 1-for-7 passing for -1 yard and an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 16th.
NFL teams must cut the rosters down to the regular-season limit of 53 but can tinker with their rosters between then and the team's opening game. The Patriots have carried only two quarterbacks in three of their past four seasons, making Tebow's tenure on the team very precarious.
"I think you want to make sure we have the best 53 people to help us win games during the year," Kraft said.
Tebow will likely get the majority of the snaps during Thursday night's game against the New York Giants, his last possible audition to make the team.
"You got to believe in yourself, have confidence every single day, got to prepare, and do the best you can at every practice, and not look ahead and focus on what you can control at that moment," Tebow told ESPNBoston.
