Mark Wahlberg wants to be Iron Man.

The "2 Guns" actor recently told Yahoo that he would love to take over playing Iron Man once Robert Downey Jr. quits the franchise. He said, "I would like to take over the Iron Man franchise for Robert Downey, [but] it's one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I've never been asked."

The actor also revealed that he was once rumored to play Robin. "Once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in 'Batman [Forever]' ... somebody dodged a bullet!" he said.

Downey Jr. is currently scheduled to reprise his role as Iron Man in "The Avengers Age of Ultron" and "Avengers 3." The actor has recently been adamant about leaving the franchise. "I'd go start another one tomorrow, but it's not tomorrow. And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don't like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch," he recently stated.

Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige was also clear that the company did not intend to have Downey for a long time either. He told the Huffington Post, "Well, look, I don't think Robert will be playing this character for another 30 years, and I certainly hope the character stays in movies for the next 30 years -- just like James Bond. I would say before George Lazenby and Roger Moore, Sean Connery was James Bond,"

Wahlberg is currently starring in "2 Guns" with Denzel Washington. He was recently seen in "Pain and Gain" as well as "Broken City." He will next be seen in "Transformers" and "Lone Survivor."

"Iron Man 4" has yet to be announced but "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will begin production in January.
